about

Mamihlapinatapai = "a look shared by two people, each wishing that the other will offer something that they both desire but are unwilling to suggest or offer themselves."

Drum tracks are live-recorded using an Ion IED01 Electronic Drum Kit up until 3:25. From there, the rest is sampled and arranged via said kit. Guitars recorded using a Fender Bullet Series Stratocaster and the built-in amplifier effects board on FL Studio called 'Hardcore'.

One of my best songs, in my opinion. This song won me a $35,000 scholarship to Full Sail University for Recording Arts. Originally, this was just a dusty, old project which began when I was in love with my ex-girlfriend, Abigail. The word 'Mamihlapinatapai' is the perfect word to describe what she and I shared multiple times, especially when I first saw her. But, we parted our ways and I took this track and made it into what you hear now. I wanted to incorporate as much emotion as I can in regards to the wonderful feeling of looking into your love's eyes and feeling that connection. It also shows the progression of the relationship she and I had. The beginning is up-lifting and down-tempo at the same time to emulate Mamihlapinatapai. Synths are added to amplify the ambient effects. The soft part at around 3:25 is meant to emulate the break-up. I didn't feel angered. I felt saddened. The ending synth pattern is meant to emulate a strong feeling which was me accepting the fact that it was all in the past but she will forever remain in my heart.
